2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R Specs, and Review

2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R
2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R - The ultimate KTM hooligan bike received only slight modifications for the year 2012 edition. But, although small, one of those changes completely changed the caracter of the KTM 990 Super Duke R. In previous edition this street attack machine was strictly for one person, but now it can transport two! Double seat and added footrest now allow the passenger to carve those backroads with you.
2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R still runs the well-known V2 engine, but now the power has been reduced from 132 hp to 125 hp. Rated at a plentiful 125hp, the newly homologated LC8 V-twin engine delivers a solid punch and incomparable liveliness. The sharper trellis frame makes for maximum agility with its sporting “R” geometry and only nine kilograms of weight. The special “R” chassis ensures a high-resolution feedback about the road surface with its precisely adjustable WP steering damper and top quality suspension components. The 2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R will go on sale across international markets in February.

2012 KTM 1190 RC8R Specs, and Review

2012 KTM 1190 RC8R
2012 KTM 1190 RC8R - For 2012, KTM further revised its signature 175-horsepower superbike, the RC8 R receiving some updates to the engine, transmission, suspension and electronics. The bike is also still offered in the RC8 R Race Spec, a full-on race machine.
2012 KTM 1190 RC8R benefits massively from racing, with the Superbike factory riders closely collaborating with the developers and providing invaluable input from the analysis of their IDM Superbike races. Optimised flywheel masses let the 75° twin rev extremely smoothly.
Starting with the 1195cc 75-degree V-Twin, KTM added 100 grams of weight to the forged crankshaft for more inertia, allowing for better mass distribution and smoother running. KTM further enhanced the engine's inertia by 25 percent through beefing up the flywheel a kilogram.
2012 KTM 1190 RC8R's six-speed transmission was also updated. KTM first added a sensor that allows the ECU to help control engine braking depending on the current gear, killing the need for a slipper clutch. KTM also redesigned the RC8 R's shift drum to reduce weight and provide better shifting, and also added stiffer aluminum gear shifter linkage for more precise shifts and easier adjustability.

2012 KTM 1190 RC8R Black
The dual-plug ignition ensures a perfect combustion control, with the pleasant side effect of a high output, peaking at 175 hp and 127 Nm of torque. An eccentric height adjustment bracket in the rear suspension linkage adds more set-up options. The carefully tuned suspension ensures a composed and comfortable ride even on public roads. As the first uncompromising hypersports tire, the Dunlop SportSmart delivers a first-rate performance on the track, in everyday road riding and in the wet. All this makes the 2012 KTM 1190 RC8R a consistently developed package for a single purpose – great fun on every mile!

2010 KTM 125 Stunt Concept Review with video

2010 KTM 125 Stunt concept
For decades now the sports motorcycle brand from Austria has been engaged in racing series all over the world and by its strong conviction and visible enthusiasm for motorsport has created for itself a unique sporting image. This KTM company philosophy is, without exception, reflected in the series models it produces. The support and promotion of tomorrow’s top riders is also a big KTM tradition. Whether competing in national sport and hobby riding or on the international stage in world championship format; whether on- or offroad, via sports promotional programmes or brand trophies, at KTM, young motorcycle enthusiasts are guaranteed plenty of attention and just the right motorcycle.
The circle closes
In the future, KTM offers the “Ready to Race” young riders the best fun and racing motorcycles and not just for use on closed circuits. As of the autumn of 2009, KTM presents the KTM 125 Project, expanding the Mattighofen, Austria, factory’s engagement in the development of series motorcycles. As well as the model range that includes the “Adventure“, “Supermoto“, “Naked Bike“ and “Superbike“, which has been continually growing since 2003, there is now a sharp focus on the machine for tomorrow’s motorcycle fan and this brings the “125” segment even more sharply into focus. With a new sporty, high quality Naked Bike in the typical KTM design language, the brand enters the segment for 125 motorcycles suitable for registration on the road and in doing so sets new standards. An independent concept within the KTM model palette right from its beginning, the future KTM 125 is conceived by and profits from the enormous know-how of the entire KTM Research and Development Department. In charge of the definition of this package of technology is the same team that has already realized legendary motorcycles like the 690 Duke. Naturally the look of the KTM 125 is a product of the company’s valued partner Kiska Design. This completely new 125 cc generation carries the same conviction and vision for the production of qualitatively the best sports motorcycles and above all stands for one thing: pure riding fun!

Powerful technology
Just as it is for the development of all KTM vehicles, there are clear rules for the KTM 125: as well as a maximum product quality, a purist sporty riding experience stands in the foreground of all production efforts. A minimal weight, best handling and best rideability are the traditional development goals. Not to be forgotten is the powerful engine, 100% developed in Mattighofen, which with 125 ccm displacement ensures plenty of enjoyment. A four valve cylinder head, two overhead camshafts, water cooling and fuel injection means that the basis 11 KW (15 hp) strong 125 cc engine carries all the most modern construction characteristics. As well as an exemplary motor culture, this typical new KTM development promises tingling performance output but at the same time guarantees highly modern levels of fuel consumption and emission characteristics. The motor, which comes in a light, latticed tubular steel frame exhales by way of an innovative exhaust system solution. The perfect KTM chassis solution combines low weight and favourable dimensions with exemplary stability. There have also been no compromises with the high quality suspension elements developed by WP Suspension, the braking system with radial mounted four-piston callipers from premium supplier Brembo and the modern light metal wheels all of which are being used for the KTM 125. The development of the completely new generation of motorcycles therefore delivers all that it has promised to up-and-coming riders. The 125 cc, the exciting Naked Bike “Made in Austria” offers riding fun and all the competence of a full-sized similar machine.

Room to move
Riding fun on two wheels, regardless of the displacement, refuses to be locked away. Now more than ever before, the KTM 125 Project represents freedom and room to move for both original ideas and variety. Elegant, modified, stripped down, for racing or simply to ride, with the KTM 125 concept everything is allowed. A possible interpretation is embodied in a study of a Naked Racer – on which the exhaust system was modified with compatible design elements direct from the KTM 125 basis study.

“KTM 125”

The developers at KTM don’t have to learn about being consistent – it is a part of their natural daily creative process. Together with the company’s enthusiastic customers, the Duke, Super Duke, RC8R and Adventure are all proof of this philosophy. Now this same dynamic is also evident in a smaller displacement bike segment with the introduction of a range of 125 cc products that have been one hundred percent developed at the company headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria. The four-valve cylinder head, water cooling, fuel injection, two overhead cam shafts and 15 hp all demonstrate the desire for the highest level of technological development. The latticed tubular steel frame is the guarantee of perfect riding fun. As always, the very succinct KTM appearance comes from the extremely creative Kiska design team. High quality suppliers like WP Suspension and Brembo are the guarantee of premium quality components throughout. Coming with individual design possibilities, these completely newly constructed motorcycles are a breath of fresh air for the segment.

2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T Specs, News, and Review...

2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T
Better than ever in 2011 thanks to leading ABS technology: the long-distance KTM 990 Supermoto T.
From its launch in the spring of 2009, the KTM 990 Supermoto T triggered a flood of enthusiastic comments. Reaching another sport motorcycle milestone for KTM, its new and unique concept was the first to combine the dynamism of an agile Supermoto with the benefits of a true long distance touring motorcycle.
The incredibly versatile two-cylinder Supermoto enters the biking season of 2011 with a decisive innovation. An ABS braking system tailored specifically for the requirements of the KTM Supermoto  makes for perfect deceleration under any conditions, rendering the 990 the Queen of negative acceleration without sacrificing any of its vigor.
Exciting & Sophisticated
The state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled V-Twin with KTM’s typical, favorable cylinder angle of 75° remains at the core of the long-distance Supermoto. Weighing in at an unrivalled 58kg, the 999cc, 115 bhp engine stands for crushing power, high refinement and impressive control. In a nutshell: exhilarating performance in a sophisticated package. And just what the special concept of the 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T requires.
Looking at the chassis, the latest issue of the 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T also delivers exactly what KTM riders expect: stability all the way up to top speed; a top quality suspension that soaks up every bump while delivering a crisp feedback; ultra-precise steering; and above all, as befits a true Supermoto, superior flickability. This effortlessness is achieved by purposely eliminating any and all unnecessary components, finding smart design solutions, and using only first rate materials.
At a curb weight of 197 kilos including the ABS, the 2011 model remains below the magical 200 kilo margin, an impressive demonstration of the KTM developers’ prowess and ambition.

High End Deceleration Support
Some of the credit for the low weight is due to the anti-lock braking system, available for the first time on the 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T, that weighs in at only one kilogram. In close collaboration with specialist supplier Bosch, the latest-generation dual channel system has been specifically adapted to the requirements of a very sporty Supermoto.
It is matched to a high-performance Brembo braking system with radial four pot calipers on 305mm discs, tailored to deliver outstanding control and awesome stopping power. The result is a sensitive ABS braking system that lets the 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T stop safely and with pinpoint accuracy on any surface and from any speed. Equipped with rollover detection, the functions of the KTM-Bosch system have been purposely designed not to interfere with an aggressive riding style. Deploying only in truly extreme situations, it will keep out of your way as long as the surface is dry and provides sufficient grip. The system may also be switched off at any time for off-road outings.
Production of 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T, now available with ABS in high gloss orange, white, or black, will commence in February, 2011. As befits its wide range of uses, KTM offers a multitude of bespoke parts and equipment from its range of PowerParts accessories, be it in order to enhance the sporty credentials even further or to add even more touring capabilities. The 2011 KTM 990 Supermoto T remains the first choice for the most extensive riding enjoyment on any road, at any speed, and – as of 2011 – in any weather.

2011 KTM 1190 RC8R Track Specs, and Review

2011 KTM 1190 RC8R Track
KTM is bringing a track-specific RC8 sportbike to market in 2011 with the intent of bolstering the Austrian firm’s presence on closed circuits. Our testers found that the 2010 RC8R model was well worth the extra money during our 2010 Superbike Smackdown VII Track testing. However, even that bike was still a street machine, but the ’11 RC8R Track cuts right to the chase. Based on the RC8R that finished sixth in our shootout last year, this new full-fairing racer comes without any of the street hardware such as headlights, blinkers, mirrors, plate holder and DOT tires – lessening the amount of effort that riders will have to invest in converting a standard KTM RC8.

A two-into-one Akrapovic EVO 4 exhaust is tucked away under the white/orange fairing and Dunlop slicks are mounted to the hoops. The bike is powered by V-Twin engine, makes uses of Brembo monobloc brakes, adjustable subframe, handlebars and footpegs. Plus the WP suspension is upgraded with the Track getting a hand knob for adjusting the shock. A racing wiring harness and automatic quick-shifter bring added performance to the powertrain as well as race mapping, a racing air filter and a thinner head gasket for higher compression. The 2011 KTM 1190 RC8R Track is equipped with different brake pads, drive chain and an aluminum sprocket. Comfort is swapped for performance with a thin race seat.
KTM knows there are riders who strictly need a race machine, and this is the answer, claiming it is targeted at hobby riders “competing in various championships.” With FIM Superstock homologation, KTM hopes it’s flashy, orange trellis chassis will be seen in official championships across Europe.

2011 KTM 990 Super Duke Specs, NEws, and Review...

In the form of the 990 Super Duke, KTM has not only reinvented the sporty naked bike, but also opened up a completely new dimension to motorcycle riding. The Super Duke combines a relaxed sitting position with merciless performance, high levels of functionality with a dynamic riding experience and high-tech with straightforward suitability for everyday use. It rewards hitting the gas with commitment thanks to its state-of-the-art V2 engine and perfectly balanced chassis with unlimited riding pleasure and supremacy at the local track.

2011 KTM 990 Super Duke Features

2011 KTM 990 Super Duke's tubular space frame made from thin-walled chrome-molybdenum steel tubing with a bolted-on, light alloy subframe only weighs 9.5 kg (20.9 lb.), yet it impresses with exemplary torsional stiffness. The 575 mm (22.64 in) swingarm with conical profiles contributes plenty of mechanical grip.
Suspension Elements
Thanks to multiple setting options, the upside-down telescopic fork and the directly connected shock absorber from WP Suspension allow optimum individual adjustment of the chassis to suit the respective operational use of the versatile 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke.

Radial brake
More than adequate deceleration is ensured in the 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke by Brembo® brakes with the very finest components. On the front wheel, two radially-mounted four-piston brake calipers, pressured by a radial master cylinder, bite hard into 320 mm (12.6 in) discs.
The 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke's cockpit provides all the essential information without subjecting the rider to sensory overload. The seat supplies both pleasant comfort and crystal clear feedback. And the gathered sitting position supports relaxed touring equally as well as hitting the gas with commitment.
The 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke's water-cooled V-engine with 88 kW (118 hp) sets the benchmark for free-revving twins. Its intelligent design principle with multi-function balancer shaft makes it the lightest and most compact V2 in its class. The engine impresses with explosiveness and spontaneous throttle response.

Cylinder Head
Aside from optimum combustion chamber design, the major factors behind the outstanding performance of the 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke's V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the state-of-the-art four-valve cylinder heads, each with flow-optimised ducts and two overhead camshafts.

Crank drive / Pistons
Particularly lightweight pistons and connecting rods bestow the 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke's V2 engine with reduced reciprocating weight and hence a decidedly spontaneous responsiveness, underlining its extremely sporty engine characteristics.

Engine Management
The electronic Keihin engine management system regulates the modern fuel injection system on the 2011 KTM 990 Super Duke, focussing on optimum behaviour under partial load and spontaneous responsiveness. In this way, KTM engineers were able to harmonise raw power with optimum rideability.

2011 KTM 1190 RC8R Specs, News, and Review

2011 KTM 1190 RC8R
Well, KTM, long known only for its highly capable off-road bikes, is doing it by being different – mostly. One look at the 2010 KTM 1190 RC8R is all it takes to know that it wasn't designed by an Italian. KTM is based in Austria (as is designer Gerald Kiska who has worked with KTM since 1991) just a day ride over Stelvio Pass from Italy, but there's no mistaking KTM's non-Italian Teutonic design language. Perhaps the distinctive design of the RC8R is the result of Austria’s location snuggled between Italy and Germany: the cold, engineering-driven German influence blended with the romance of Latin Europe.
The RC8R’s chiseled design creates a sensation wherever it stops. If an F-117 stealth fighter crashed into a motorcycle factory, the RC8R would be the likely result. Slim and angular, and swaddled with matte-black paint, it looks stealthy, even if its radar-evading qualities are dubious. Although few would describe the black and orange machine as “pretty,” we admire the courage to step outside of the well-worn sportbike design box with its bold origami shape. Opinions vary.
“Angular shapes and bold use of black, white and orange color scheme makes the KTM a clear standout in styling in the liter class, possibly rivaled only by BMW’s new S1000RR,” says MO’s Senior Editor, Pete Brissette.
“They say there’s a fine line separating genius from lunacy, and for the RC8 there’s a fine line between distinctive styling from downright repugnance – you choose,” observes Tom Roderick, MO guest rider and freelance journalist.
Like the Ducati, KTM’s top-line superbike is powered by a liquid-cooled V-Twin, although here, too, it is done a little different. Its cylinders are set at 75 degrees rather than the Duc's traditional 90-degree Vee for a more compact arrangement. The non-R RC8 makes do with 1148cc and 15 horsepower less than the R’s claimed 170 crankshaft hp made at 10,250 rpm. The R has several high-tech features such as titanium intake valves, a lofty 13.5:1 compression ratio and a low-friction DLC treatment on its camshafts’ finger followers. Peak torque of 90.7 ft-lbs from the Rotax engine is said to arrive at 8000 rpm. We discovered nearly 150 horses pushing the back wheel when we had four-time AMA tuner of the year Carry Andrew strap it to the Hypercycle dyno.
While KTM builds its own frames from large-tube chromoly steel, it sources high-end componentry from world leaders like Brembo and Marchesini across the Dolomite Mountains. Fuel injection comes from Keihin in Japan.

2009 KTM 690 Duke R Specs, News, and Review

Uncompromising high-end motorcycling technology for riders who want it all: a racing precision chassis with the world's most powerful series single-cylinder, an upgraded engine with 690cc, a crankshaft with greater stroke, new mapping and numerous detail optimisations provide an impressive 51.5 kW/70 Hp of power and a maximum torque of 70 Nm.
Marchesini aluminium rims with an orange rim ring, a black anodised triple clamp, the orange R-tubular space frame and a whole range of additional black-coated components act as one refined part after another to underline the Duke 690 R's status as an exceptional motorcycle.

On the twisty Alpine roads on the outskirts of Nice, in France, the 690 Duke R immediately feels very light and easy to ride. And it’s not just very agile – it’s also very stable. With its stiff steel tube trellis frame, cast aluminium swingarm and uprated front fork, the Duke R stays quite planted even at its top speed of around 200km/h.
On bumpy roads with small patches of snow and ice, the Duke R doesn’t lose its composure even at higher speeds. The brakes, too, work very well – the single 320mm disc with Brembo radial-mount four-piston callipers at the front, and 240mm rear disc offer so much stopping power that you actually need some time to get used to these brakes.
The bike is comfortable to ride and the wide handlebars give you a lot of space to move around. If it weren’t for the lack of wind protection, you could actually use this bike for long distance trips.
For the Duke R, KTM have increased the displacement of their single-cylinder engine from 654cc to 690cc and power output has gone up from 65bhp to 70bhp. And yes, you can feel the difference – the new bike feels more responsive than the basic 690 Duke. There’s still not much power up to 2,000rpm but things are perfect once you cross that figure. The engine feels stronger and more rev-happy than you’d expect a single-cylinder engine to be, and it doesn’t vibrate much either. Honestly, you just can’t ask more of a machine with a 690cc single-cylinder engine!

2010 KTM 990 Super Duke Specs, News, and Review

KTM recently launched the Super Duke 990 R Motor hottest, best bike in 2010 and selling in the market, the motor is very impressive by developing an “engine”that will exploit fully into every last inch of free time in road traffic certification: Fully adjustable 48 WP forks, motors ‘Streetfighter’ but also stripped down interpretation of the RC8 model. That’s how they finally gave 2009 KTM 990 Super Duke R and a simple model following the same recipe as in the case Superbike model and, implicitly, expect roughly the same results
As much as KTM’s design crew would achieve in matters of visual similarity, although very nice and helps create a constant and distinctive scheme on all their sports models, the 990 Super Duke R and 990 Super Duke will always stand apart from the 1190 RC8
R and 1190 RC8 simply because of the totally different riding feel, performances etc. It all starts with the 999cc, four-stroke, 75-degree V-twin engine (best known as the LC8) making both the Super Duke R and the Standard model not only competitive, but even ready for the track. For instance, “R” model’s engine develops 130 hp at 10,000 rpm and 102 Nm at 8,000 rpm which is even more impressive when mentioning the bike’s 410.05 lbs weight. That’s also what the simple Super Duke will have to move around, but with 118 hp at 9,000 rpm and 100 Nm at 7,000 rpm so it’s a Super Duke to meet most riding demands.
KTM 990 Super Duke gives you when it’s in motion. Just as KTM re-invented the Streetfighter, you try to invent new words for what happens beneath you curve after curve. The KTM 990 Super Duke sweeps through curves – ultra-precise, radical and agile. The landscape flies past fast, faster, much too fast. You feel the road, the centrifugal force and want more.

2011 KTM 125 DUKE specs, Newsa, and Review

For 2011, KTM is offering a road-legal 125 for the first time – the 125 Duke. The new model will go on sale in the spring 2011, and while KTM has yet to announce an official price, they did promise that it would be affordable. They also predicted that this may just be your "first fast love."
KTM Duke 125 is an extraordinary bike which not only offers glamorous looks but it will also be a style icon on Indian roads. The looks of this bike are enhanced by cutting edge design feature.
Robust and macho looks of this bike is very attractive. Duke 125 is specially made for tough individuals who carries macho attitude in them. Eye-catchy graphic and aerodynamic body if Duke 125 is very impressive and also very comfortable.
No other motorcycle manufacturer integrating the design in a similar way in the development process of a motorcycle as KTM. The Duke 125 is no exception when it comes to bringing technology solutions to provide a meaningful and attractive in line. From the first line on the drawing board to the reconciliation in the beginning in spring 2011 serial production was and is the 125 Duke hand in hand with the Salzburg designers around Gerald Kiska – who had already designed the first KTM Duke in 1994 – designed and implemented . Prime example of the seamless alliance between technicians and designers, the unique exhaust system running. The innovative main silencer contains a catalytic converter, ensures its position behind the motor housing for a perfect use of space while supporting the centralization of the masses. As an entirely separate product available from spring 2011, the new KTM-typical shapes and the art of leaving things on display. A key component of the concept are also be several power parts, special parts developed from KTM, the future Duke drivers plenty of room for customization. Either way – the 125 Duke fascinating from every perspective – in the test walk around the machine inspired design and workmanship – on the handlebars inspire dynamics and driving feel. 2009 KTM Duke Specs, News and Review

2009 doesn’t bring a totally restyled 690 Duke so the bike works with the same longitudinally mounted streetfighter headlights integrated into an aggressive housing that looks like a pretty well made aftermarket piece even though it is a standard feature of the bike. The side plates and fenders look sharp too while the supermoto-style seat is positioned at 34.06" from the ground.
The 17-inch wheels, 320mm front disc brake and under engine exhaust all indicate that we’re dealing with a veritable sports bike while the supermoto-style handlebars works with the seat in order to get us pretty confused about the bike’s specific category, but even more interested to see what it’s up to when on the move.

Orange and White where the 2008 color schemes for this model and they carry on to 2009, but this year’s special color for the middleweight Duke is Black. If this would have only got an orange painted frame and upgraded engine, we would have talked about a very special 2009 KTM 690 Duke R, just as we did about the 2009 KTM 1190 RC8 R and 2009 KTM 990 Super Duke R models. These models are all related and it’s just too bad that the small Duke was excluded from the performance and visual upgrading process. DOWNLOAD manual of KTM Duke

2010 KTM 990 Supermoto R Specs, News,and Review

Designed to push the limits further and further on the race track, the KTM 990 SM R is the most radical two-cylinder supermoto on the market. It is all the more surprising that town and city riding is at least as much fun as negotiating twisting roads on mountain passes.
The KTM stand is expected to be pretty crowded this November at the EICMA show in Milan as the Austrian manufacturer announces the official release of one of its most notorious naked motorcycle, the 990 Supermoto R.
At a first glance, the new bike distinguishes from the 2008 model year due to the new color scheme
featuring a set of white plastics mounted on the orange powdercoated frame. Also, the rims feature a nice, Y-spoke design and the swingarm is black painted on the 2009 model year.
The only downside yet to be identified is the reduced fuel capacity. Apparently, the gas tank became smaller in the designer’s attempt to create a sportier riding position. DOWNLOAD manual of KTM 990 Supermoto R

The 950 Supermoto R combines irrepressible power and effortless handling. The KTM engineers did their utmost to develop a “machine” that would exploit to the fullest every last inch of leeway in road traffic certification: Fully adjustable 48 WP chassis, ultralight chromium molybdenum tubular trellis frame, enhanced seat ergonomics for perfect drifts as well as “R”adial brake performance from Bembo all ensure pure pleasure in the curves.
